Preview into the Season
Mavs take the field Friday, 8/31 with great expectations
As students start off this brand new year full of hopes, aspirations, and goals, so does the varsity football team.
“We’re excited to start off this season right,” Offensive Line Coach John Sturgell said. “Our offensive line has been working hard and they’ve really come together as a unit.”
Because of the University Interscholastic League realignment of districts, the Mavericks will play nine district games as they welcome Vandegrift, Vista Ridge, and Leander to District 13-6A.
The players also feel optimistic and ready to take on the Del Valle Cardinals, as the season begins Friday, Aug. 31 at 7:30 p.m. at Dragon Stadium.
“We shifted the focus not to winning – although it’s definitely still a major factor – but on our team as a whole,” senior running back Donovan Brown said. “I feel highly confident that my team will win some games this year.”
