Swim and Dive Test the Waters
The Swim and Dive team competes with the Burnet High School Swim and Dive team.
The McNeil Swim and Dive team attended a meet at Burnet High School on Jan 7. They competed in the Boys and Girls 200 Medley relay, 200 Freestyle and the 400 Freestyle. Before the meet, junior Gabriel Galvez explained how he felt about the upcoming competition.
“This is a meet that’s in the middle of training so we can see where we’re at,” Galvez said. “Usually, before a meet, I feel really nervous like I’m about to throw up. But then I remember my teammates support me no matter what, and it helps me do my best.”
During the meet, many swimmers were able to earn medals in their events. Gabriel placed second in the 200 Freestyle relay along with Fernando Mataz, William Lumburg and Eashan Gopal. Others placed in first to third places at the meet.
“[The meet] went pretty good in my opinion,” Galvez said. “We got there kind of early and warming up was a little crazy but overall the meet was really good. There were a lot of time improvements.”
The next Swim and Dive meet will be on Friday, Feb 4th at Rock Wall for Regionals from 8am to 5pm.
