McNeil Baseball finished off their season Tuesday, Apr. 23 at home against Cedar Ridge. The game was very representative of the rest of the season. The pitching was great, as senior Pierce Stone once again threw a great game to end his high school career, but the offense could never get going, leading to the loss.
In the first inning, Cedar Ridge was able to get runners on base by hitting grounders through the infield, just past the dive of junior Will Hoggard on multiple occasions. Coupled with an errant throw, the Raiders managed to get the first run of the game on a base hit to right field with runners on first and third to take a 1-0 lead. The pitching and defense kept the deficit at one, but the offense couldn’t give any help. The Mavs didn’t even get a baserunner until the fourth inning, when junior Joseph Sandusky walked to finally get the offense on base. However, good defense from the Raiders killed any threat, as they made several nice plays in the field to keep the Mavs at bay. With the bases loaded in the sixth inning, Cedar Ridge hit a double over the head of third baseman Justin Sandusky to score two runs, and it was a 3-0 game. The Raiders would add one more run in the seventh to make the score 4-0, and close out the Mav bats to get the win, and end the regular season.
With the season over, it’s clear that it didn’t go as expected. However, looking at the roster for next season, expectations are high that McNeil will once again return to the promised land.
