The varsity baseball team defeated the Stony Point Tigers 7-4 on Wed. Mar 19, in a neutral site game played at Dell Diamond, home of the Round Rock Express, triple A affiliates of the Texas Rangers. Junior Tyler Schwartz started on the mound for the Mavs, pitching four innings and only allowing two runs while also contributing a hit.
“Playing at Dell Diamond was a great experience and it was nice to play at the field of the [Round Rock Express] with my teammates,” Schwartz said. “We played well and hope to continue this winning stretch going forward.”
Junior Justin Sandusky closed the game out while also adding a run in the victory.
“Playing at Dell was an incredible experience. It was surreal playing in a stadium that I’ve grown up watching games in,” Sandusky said. “As for the team, I feel like we are in a great spot to finish near the top of the district and I feel like we have a lot of momentum for the rest of the season.”
The second game of the series, on Tuesday night at home was a win 3-2 win in which pitcher John Salas led the Mavs to a win with a 92 pitch outing only allowing five hits and recording nine strikeouts.
The win marks the Mavs’ third straight after beating Round Rock 7-6, snapping a 5-game winning streak for the Dragons. The win also moved them to second in the district at 4-2, with an overall record of 8-6-2.
