The varsity golf teams competed in the District 25-6A Golf Championship Tournament on April 13-17. The girls team ended their season finishing fifth out of 12 teams, and the boys team placing fifth out of 16 teams.
Despite not advancing, the girls team finished the year with a successful season with various high placings, highlighted by their fourth place finishes in both the Lago Vista Invitational on Thursday February 13, as well as the Lake Belton Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, March 22 and 23.
“Overall this season was really good,” sophomore Lainey Mican said. “We had a lot of wins and medals at different tournaments, it probably could have gone better at districts compared, but I think it was just the competition that districts because our district is so competitive, it’s a little scary.”
Mican said her highlight of the tournament was when she hit a hole-in-one, one of the rarest feats in the sport.
“I was really not expecting to make it, we were actually joking about that the whole day,” Mican said. “There were some really easy par threes and we were like, ‘oh my God, what if we get a hole in one?’ I was like, watch me get a hole in one, and then literally I hit it.”
With the season officially ending for the girls team, preparation in the offseason begins.
“Even though we didn’t advance, this season was really fun,” Mican said. “I love all my teammates and I’m excited to get better for next year.”
