On Tuesday the Lady Mavs faced Manor High School for their first home game of the season. After beginning their 2025 season on Aug. 12 against Lake Belton High School with a 0-3 loss, the Mavs came out on Tuesday and brought home their first district win of the season with a 3-0 win against Manor.
Spending the past month trying out for teams, the Lady Mavs began practice in July in order to prepare for their early season.
“In the summer, we went to volleyball skills almost every single morning,” senior middle Chloe Stewart said. “We had volleyball camp in late July, and then we had our tryouts on August 1st so that we would be ready for the season.”
The Lady Mavs held the lead throughout the entire first set maintaining a strong start, ending the first set 25-15. Continuing into the match Manor was inching towards the Mavs, but were still unable to get the lead, with the second set ending 25-21, and the third with the Mavs winning 25-22.
“After our win against Manor I’m really excited for my senior season,” senior pin/setter Emmie Vacek said. “We were able to run a lot of plays and I think that it built a lot of confidence in the team getting that win and seeing what options work on offense and defense.”
With eight returning varsity players, the Lady Mavs leaned on both experience and fresh talent, with the crowd also playing a role in preparing the new players.
“I think it was good for the new people on the team to see, because there’s a lot of people there, and a lot of people in the stands,” Vacek said. “There’s a lot of adrenaline, so there’s a lot of pressure, but we overcame that as a team.”
The Lady Mavs will continue into district play today at home against Vandegrift High School.
