The Lady Mavericks Flag Football team officially began their 2026 season on Wednesday, April 16, against Westlake. Sponsored by the Houston Texans, this season serves as the Lady Mavericks second season representing the school after the program officially launched last year. Facing Cedar Park on Wednesday, April 29, the game ended in a loss for the Mavericks.
The team entered the game with high stakes, knowing a win could have improved their tournament standings.
“We really wanted to win because that would mean we would possibly get a top seed in the tournament,” Senior Lila Svoboda said. “So we just wanted to focus on doing our best and leaving it all on the field.”
Despite dancing challenges against Cedar Park, the team adapted quickly and relied on different players to step into unfamiliar positions.
“Our past game was definitely the most challenging moment of the season, because we were missing a lot of key players,” Svovoda said. “Other people had to step up and learn new positions.”
Looking back on the season, Svoboda said the team’s first victory stood out as the most rewarding moment so far in their season.
“My favorite moment this season was the first game we won,” Svodboda said. “You could tell we were applying everything we had learnt in practice and our practice had paid off.”
