In the Mood for Food
Groups hold end-of-year banquets
With less than a month left of school, organizations inside and outside of the classroom are having their last events to commemorate the final moments of the year.
In academics, AP exams and finals mark the closing of the year, and for extracurriculars the commemoration is expressed through banquets. Many are hosted at restaurants, while a few organizations such as HOSA and soccer cater food on campus. Wherever the location, the people and memories are the focus of the night.
“At the soccer banquet, we got awards, took pictures, and watched slideshows,” senior Vincent Leslie said. “We also ate Smokey Mo’s, which satisfied me.”
The banquet is not just a dinner. Members are dressed in semi-formal attire; and for those in athletics, it is sometimes shocking to see people who regularly don nike shorts sporting a different fashion. Additionally, the slideshows allow members to resurface old memories from the beginning of the year, including both forgotten and highlighted times.
“Everyone was laughing at the photos,” Leslie said. “The banquet felt amazing. I was very happy that I was able to spend time with all of my teammates and friends that I have gotten to know over the years.”
Food makes good friends, and together with friends food tastes even better. Throughout the night, people laughed and smiled together, making their new memories while reliving old ones.
“Go Mav soccer,” Leslie said. “I’m going to miss my boys. Homies since day uno.”
