Candle Light, Candle Bright
NSHS inducts new members
In the light of the Mother candle, flickering flames illuminated the lecture hall, signifying membership for 65 inductees as officers of National Spanish Honors Society officially introduced their newest members Jan. 29.
“It’s an honor to work with these types kids,” NSHS sponsor Anna Gallegos said. “The kids are proud of what they represent, which is the Maverick spirit.”
The officers solidified Gallegos’ beliefs in a similar manner.
“I feel that what we do is important,” junior Spence Blood, vice president, said. “We do more than just look over the club and regulate how it runs. [Most importantly,] we do a lot of volunteer work where we actually get to speak in Spanish and experience a lot of the Spanish culture.”
Inductees also spoke about their excitement in joining the NSHS.
“The thing I’m most looking forward to is the volunteer work,” inductee junior Abigail Davis said. “I find the cultural experience and actually speaking Spanish really exciting.”
