A new youth skating program has started, giving students free tickets to come skate with friends, learn new skills and enjoy a safe, active space on the rink.
The program, founded by co-presidents junior Dhiyana Ganesan Rajaram and Vista Ridge junior Ana Kim, offers free skating sessions led by two instructors who have been skating professionally for over four years.
“We truly believe this program has the power to empower youth,” Rajaram said. “And help them build confidence, [creating] a safe, welcoming space for everyone to grow. Skating is more than just a sport, it teaches balance, perseverance, and the joy of learning something new.”
Behind the program is a full student-led team working together to bring the idea to life. In addition to Kim and Rajaram, the club’s officers include Secretary sophomore Gursheen Chabra, Content Producer junior Sneha Kuppasad and Registration Officer Vista Ridge junior Yosselin Fuente Amaya.
“I decided to join the Youth Skate program because I love to go skating in my free time and I like creating social media posts,” Kuppasad said. “I think that this type of program is a great idea because it gets kids into skating and they could possibly pick up a new, active, hobby.”
The club will host its first two sessions on Dec. 22 and Dec. 29 at Pins & Wheels, which was specifically chosen for its family-friendly environment.
“We’re especially excited to host our first sessions at Pins & Wheels, a place that has always been community-based, safe, and incredibly welcoming for youth and families,” Rajaram said. “It’s the perfect environment for kids to learn, have fun, and feel supported. We’re proud to offer a place where families, friends, and students can come together, connect, and build confidence both on and off the rink.”
Students who want to join the program must register ahead of time so organizers can provide updates about events, future sessions and activities. Registration is required for all participants.
“Everyone is welcome to come in and skate, but you must register for our program so we can keep you updated on all upcoming events and activities,” Rajaram said. “For our very first session, you’re invited to bring a friend or even bring your parents for some fun family time on the rink.”
