Minimum wage in Texas is $7.25 an hour and it is time for that to change. The Texas minimum wage has not been raised since 2009 when it was $6.55. The prices of gas, groceries and the cost of living have only gone up and the minimum wage should go up too.
If pay was to be raised it would lead to improved workers’ morale, encouraging productivity and efficiency. It would lead to benefits in overall satisfaction from the employer running the business, the employee, and the customer receiving the service.
It would bring more financial stability if the minimum wage provided for people’s basic needs which include housing, food and transportation. Working anywhere full time should be able to provide a stable lifestyle.
Having to work multiple jobs and work 12+ hour weeks and still not having enough is not what anybody should have to deal with. Better pay could help those in poverty have the ability to rely less on the government for funding their needs. Not paying workers enough increases poverty and continues to put people in bad conditions.
Improving pay would not harm businesses or the economy. It must be improved because everything else is getting expensive. According to a 2023 study by The University of Pennsylvania’s School of Social Policy and Practice, “In labor markets that are more concentrated or less densely populated, minimum wage increases lead to overall positive employment effects.”
Soon in the future minimum wage needs to be raised to make everything fair. Businesses can afford to pay their employees more and it is deserved. The employees are what makes business run and they need to be compensated fairly.
