Art in definition is “the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power,” according to Oxford Languages. In that definition, AI art would not qualify due to the fact it isn’t a human, but yet AI is still creating texts and images, these creations usually considered “art”.
A popular example of AI art are viral songs on Tik Tok. “I run” by Haven has made it onto the billboard charts, with the song using AI vocals to enhance the sound. Many users on TikTok seem to enjoy listening to this song, but it has caused controversy with some saying that AI has started taking over the music industry. Part of their argument is that there is no beauty or emotional power when made by AI, so by classifying that song as art would be factually wrong.
The creative art industry should not be having to face this problem as AI was not meant for creating art. AI was made to form concepts and solve problems, but has now come to this. The lack of creativity should not result in this. With AI becoming accessible, there will only be more future instances of this.
