Home field advantage has always been considered a big part of sports and the momentum of games. The comfortability and familiar sight tends to give one team a better chance than the other. But home field advantage is becoming less important and irrelevant.
Athletes now are more prepared and equipped to perform no matter where they are. Players travel comfortably and with many advantages so it is not a big deal for them. They travel everyday year round and in some cases, visit the same places throughout the year meaning they aren’t affected by the change of scenery. All the advanced technology helps players prepare better. They already know what to expect when going to play. They train and prepare for the exact scenarios so when the situation comes up they know what to do.
Organizations now have better technology when it comes to deciding strategies for games. When to rest players or when to put somebody in the game. Areas are not unfamiliar to teams; as they prepare using artificial crowd noise and watching game film. Crowd energy is also affected with stadiums being mixed with fans who cheer for all kinds of teams. Big market teams draw attention no matter where they go, whether they are playing on the road or at home.
Fans’ presence will always matter and players will always prefer to play at home but due to the expansion of technology in our increasingly digital world, everyone is more prepared now. It is not the stadium that wins the games, it’s the players who show up ready to go.
