Mavericks Win Pflugerville Series 2-1

The Mavs traveled to Pflugerville to continue district play against the Panthers. The Panthers jumped out to a quick 5-1 lead in the first inning and strong pitching led the Panthers to a 6-2 victory over the Mavs. Highlighting the night for the Mavs were junior Cameron Terrell and senior Alex Grant.

Game two of the series promised more luck for the Mavs despite committing six errors. The Mavs jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the fourth with an RBI Double by senior Austin Hinkle. The Panthers answered with one run in the seventh to tie the game.

In the eighth inning, both teams scored a pair of runs which eventually sent the game into the 10th inning. In the bottom of the 10th, senior Trent Nielsen knocked in Hinkle with a ground ball to the second baseman and the Mavs walked away with a 4-3 win. Steven Decarlo pitched well at the end of the game to take the win for the Mavs.

The Panthers were ready to seek revenge on Saturday afternoon as senior Sean Mason took the mound for the Mavs. With the Mavs leading 1-0 in the bottom of the third, the Panthers came fighting back with two runs to take a 2-1 lead. It didn’t take long for the Mavs to regain the lead, however, scoring one run each in the fourth and fifth innings to take a 3-2 lead and the win. Mason walked away with the win for the Mavs and Kyle Dutton sealed the deal with a save.
