The swim team bonded over success and fun at the first meet of the season.

The swim team attended the first swim meet of the year on Sept. 21 at the Anderson Mill Swimming Pool against teams from Cedar Ridge, Round Rock, Westwood, Stony Point, Leander and Gateway. Three freshmen, Sutton Marvin, Hayley Krebsbach and diver Nicole Bogusch won their events, starting off the season with success.

“It was fantastic for a first meet,” swim coach Johnny Foss said. “I like seeing our kids compete and strive for their goals.”

The team began practicing four weeks ago and continues to practice for about two hours every morning at Rattan Creek Pool during the school week. The swimmers believe that their hard work was visible at the meet.

“I love seeing everyone happy about their times and cheering everyone on,” captain Azea Gluff said. “We work so hard during our training and you can tell that it all pays off.”

The meet was full of hard work and success as well as fun. The team’s bonds grew closer as they tried to do their team cheer.

“We were all trying to teach the freshmen how to do the cheer correctly and we still haven’t done it right,” Gluff said. “So messing up the cheer always starts the meet off with the laugh.”

The next meet of the season is Oct. 12 at the Georgetown Recreation Center at 9 a.m. The students and coaches have high hopes for the season.

“I’m looking forward to this season,” Foss said. “I hope to improve upon last year and break some records.”
