Boys’ Basketball Makes 18th Playoff Appearance

After countless games and unruly predictions, boys’ basketball made it to playoffs for the 18th time in school history. The Mavericks’ first playoff game is against Lake Travis at Vandegrift High School at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 18.

“Honestly, we weren’t expected to make it to playoffs,” coach Darrell Hagemann said. “But we did and we are excited. I’m proud of the boys for working so hard and proving that they had it in them to make it there.”

Since January, the boys have had seven wins and three losses. They won against Stony Point (52-51), Westwood (44-39), Round Rock (63-58), Hendrickson (58-55), Cedar Ridge (56-66), Pflugerville (58, 46), and Round Rock (66-52). They lost against Pflugerville (48-52), Stony Point (57-60), and Westwood (45-57).

“The beginning of the season started off great,” senior Brendan Nealon said. “But the second half dropped. I’m just glad that the hard work the team has put in allowed us to play in the playoffs. It’s a bit nerve wracking, but I’m excited.”
