The girls Varsity golf team had their victory at the Leslie Lane Memorial Golf Tournament on Feb. 24. Congratulations, Mavs.

The varsity girls’ golf team hosted the Leslie Lane Memorial Golf Tournament Feb. 24 at the Lost Creek Country Club in Westlake.

The Lady Mavs won the tournament by 12 shots beating out Westlake and 16 other schools, including all schools in District 16-5A.

Junior Kaylie Ivester, sophomore Leilani McDaniel, junior Nicole Neves, senior Natalie Windolph, senior Caitlin Blair and freshman Ashley Neves all played well to help the Lady Mavs earn the Leslie Lane trophy for the first time since 2010.

The annual tournament was held in honor of Leslie Lane, a former McNeil golfer, who died during her sophomore year.

Freshman Lauren Kim, the newest addition to the girls’ golf team, won the individual tournament title, shooting an incredible round of 71 (1-under par).

“She is one of the best in the state and she plays for us,” coach Matt Hoover said.

Kim moved here from Maryland second semester. She is happy to join the Lady Mavs.

“They’re all so nice and very welcoming,” Kim said. “Coach Hoover is really nice. My friend, Leilani, told me he was like a father figure to everyone on the team.”
