The Running Mavs played against the Round Rock Dragons and won 56-45 Feb. 17. This victory marked coach Darrell Hagemann’s 500th career win.

“I am hoping that the 500th win secures our spot in the district championship,” coach Hagemann said. “I wanted to have a positive impact on a group of students and I enjoy the competitive end of it.”

Not only is Hagemann the varsity basketball coach, but he is also one of the founding faculty of McNeil High School.

“I have had many really fun games that we have been involved in,” Hagemann said. “Too many to name.”

In addition to Hagemann’s milestone win, the Mavs have won a total of 490 games and are close to reaching 500 games themselves.

“At some point coaching stopped feeling like a job to me,” Hagemann said. “I have fun with the team and guiding them through games that may be easy or hard.”

The Mavs begin post-season play Tuesday, Feb. 24 at Vandegrift HIgh School at 8 PM against the Westlake Chaparrals.
