The boys golf team took the victory by one stroke over Lake Travis Oct. 13-14 at the Hancock Park and Delaware Springs golf clubs.

“I was very happy; and I put a lot of work into this,” Junior Diego Courtney said. “It was the best tournament and winning second place [individually] was close to winning first.”

Courtney led the way for the Mavericks by shooting 73-74=147 to earn the second place individual medal. Also, freshman Franco Melhado had a top-10 finish, shooting 76-79= 155 to take seventh place.

“I felt that I did well for my first tournament,” Melhado said. “But I could have done better than getting seventh place.”

Juniors Ben Reinhardt, Jack Fretwell, and Landry Caver also helped the Mavericks win their opening tournament on the 2017-2018 season.

Winning the title over the title over Lake Travis “was surprising and winning and almost beating them by a one shot, and we haven’t won since last year” said Diego Courtney.
