The Mavericks swim team competed in the District 13 6-A meet Jan. 26 at the UT Swim Center with both teams placing third in the rankings.

“Winning would be great,” coach Johnny Foss said. “If we can’t win then we are going for personal best performances.”

Coach Foss won District Coach of the Year at the the District Swim Meet.

Prior to district competition, the swim team competed in a meet against the Winter Wildcats on Jan. 6 at the Hardin Swim Center in Temple.

“We were kind of rusty from break, so we didn’t do as well as we hoped,” junior Victoria Trunick said.

Trunick swam the IM race, which includes all the strokes.

“I love how much like a family we are,” junior Delaney Harris said. “We all support each other and I love the positivity that this team has.”

Harris swims the 200 and 500 free stroke race.

“We are young but extremely talented,” Foss said. “If our swimmers could grow just a little bit, we would surely be history in the making.”
