Soaring Through the Water With the motivation of his teammates on the sidelines, sophomore Collin Le bursts through the water aiming to beat the competition at the District 13-6A swim meet on the University of Texas campus. Le, who practiced every day for two hours, enjoyed swimming because it took his mind off from school. “I’m so proud of myself because I dropped some time off my swim,” Le said.

At the district swim meet Jan. 26, swimmers advanced to regionals by placing in the top six of their event and earned a medal by placing in the top three of their event. Three school records were also set.

“We had amazing performances, huge time drops, and last swims,” head coach Johnny Foss said.

Junior Thomas Shomper set a record with the fastest lead off a 50-yard backstroke split with a time of 23.88 seconds.

I’m proud of the teamwork and effort we put in.

“My main goal was to beat my personal best,” Shomper said. “I’m proud of myself for being able to beat that.”

The boys 200 and 400 meter freestyle relays placed first.

“I’m proud of the teamwork and effort we put in,” junior Ian Frey said.

Regional preliminary races will be on Feb. 1 at the Mansfield ISD Natatorium with finals Feb. 2.

“We worked really hard and had a lot of fun,” junior Lorretta Bates said.
