The swim team competed at the Westwood, Vandegrift Tri-Meet on Sep. 25.

Senior Tommy Shomper placed first in the Boys 200 Yard Freestyle and Boys 100 Yard Freestyle. Last week, Shomper set a new school record in the 100 Yard Butterfly at a Dual meet versus Lake Travis High School. This record was last broken 10 years ago.

“It was a lot of fun breaking the record that was 10 years old,” Shomper said. “To achieve my goal, I practiced two times a day and I’ve been working really hard over the summer to break the records.”

The girls team placed first in the overall team ranking with a score of 670.5.

“Everyone was going really hard on relays,” Team Manager Shri Kamal said. “The girls watched each others during the relay.”

The girls placed first in the 200 Yard Medley Relay. The team boosted each other’s energy up during the entire meeting.

“During the relay, there were two or three people who felt kind of unconfident, but some girls went up and said ‘hey, let’s do this.’,” Kamal said.

The swim team will compete again on Oct. 12 at the Georgetown, Eastview Tri Meet.

“I’m really excited for the rest of the season,” Shomper said. “This season, I’m focused on becoming a state champion.”
