The Sapphires performed during the varsity boys basketball home game during halftime on Jan. 23.
They prepared the hip-hop routine for four months before performing it at halftime.
“The process was, for me personally, really fun,” sophomore Kripa Karki said. “Because we had auditions for our dance, we have changed formations and it’s just the basic dance process.”
They performed half of their prepared hip-hop dance at halftime.
“We were talking about how everyone in the audience was saying we should have danced longer,” sophomore Megan Hoang said. “So I wish we had more time to get the rest done.”
While competition is scored, performances at games are for entertainment purposes.
“For competition, I feel like you really have to be more focused,” Hoang said. “You’re performing for yourself and your team, and you’re representing your school.”
The Sapphires had their contest showoff on Jan. 29. They will also have a competition at Westwood on Feb. 10 and their spring show later in the year.
“I think it went really well,” Karki said. “And I think our contest is going to be even better, so y’all should come!”
