On Friday, Sept. 6, varsity volleyball took on Hutto High School, for the first time since the redistricting two years ago. With three close sets, Hutto won 0-3.
The Lady Mavs’ game started slow in the first set, with few scoring opportunities. They ended the first set 10-25 L. Both teams kicked up the energy in the second set. Multiple point-scoring kills and hustle plays helped get the Lady Mavs back up on the scoreboard, but despite the Lady Mavs’ efforts in the second set, they were unable to keep up with Hutto’s high-intensity plays, ending the set 23-25 just two points behind the Hippos. Unable to catch up, the Lady Mavs lost the third and final set 14-25, ending the game with a second district loss.
“I think that the first set of the game was really slow,” Junior Chloe Steward said, “We weren’t really playing our speed, more of theirs, the second set we picked up and had a lot of energy and effort, I definitely felt like it was one of our best sets as a team, and the third set kinda tapered back out to like how it was in the beginning, slower, less communication, but overall we learned a lot about how it feels to succeed in a set even though we didn’t win”
The Lady Mavs will return to the court on Friday, Sept. 13, against Westwood High School on their opponent’s home court.
