On Friday, Sept. 20, varsity volleyball faced Round Rock High School for their homecoming game. The Lady Mavs were not able to pull off a win in the heated match, ultimately losing 0-3.
Starting the first set, the Dragons came out strong. With their high-intensity playing style and the various successful kill plays, the Lady Mavs could not catch up, ending the first set 7-25 L. Walking into the second set, the Lady Mavs were more prepared for Round Rocks’ play, allowing them to pick up the pieces and execute more plays. Although the Lady Mavs were able to pick up the pace, Round Rock ultimately came out on top ending the second set 15-25 L. The third set continued to be a battle for McNeil, ending the game with a 12-25 L.
“It was a tough game,” junior setter Emily Vacek said. “We tried to stay motivated during warm-ups, just trying to keep our communication and energy up so it would show up on the court.”
The Lady Mavs now own a 2-27 record and will put it on the line when they play again on Friday, Sept. 27, against Stony Point High School.
