The tennis team includes talented players who dedicate their time and efforts to the sport. Some have been playing for as long as they could remember, and others just a year or two. But no matter how long they have been playing, they all ended up on a tennis team filled with friendships and fun.

Sophomore Jack Cohen started tennis when he was 4 years old, and this will be his 11th year playing. He has been regarded by coach Roger Grass as the star player, because of his undefeated streak in singles.

“What interested me about tennis was the individuality,” Cohen said. “You’re just by yourself and not with a team, so it takes a lot of athletic ability to play it.”

Sophomore Pranav Pradhan also likes tennis because it’s a one-on-one sport. He believes playing the game by yourself is better than having a whole team to play with.

“You don’t have to rely on other people for success,” Pradhan said.

Unlike Cohen, Pradhan has only been playing tennis for three years. He believes that the team gives an opportunity is make new friends and tennis is a great stress reliever.

Senior Krystal Casillas agrees with Pradhan.

“When you have three tests in a row during school, tennis is a great opportunity to finally walk outside, stretch your legs, and get out in the sun,” Casillas said.

Most of these players wouldn’t even be on the team if it wasn’t for the influence from their friends or family. Junior Jacklyn Matthews became interested in tennis because of her sister.

My older sister did swimming and it was very tough on her,” Matthews said. “Tennis seemed like a sport that I could manage with school.”

They all plan to play after high school, but mostly just for fun. For now, they’re going to spend their high school years on their favorite sport, tennis.
