Key Club Makes a Difference at Community Pancake Breakfast

Saturday, members of the Key Club volunteered at the Texas Baptist Children’s Home in honor of Kiwanis Pancake Day, an event organized by the Round Rock Kiwanis Club in hopes of raising money to benefit children of the Round Rock area.

“The event was really successful. It was my first time here, and I really liked it,” junior Nayoung Hur said. “Everybody was very welcoming.”

The event ran from 7 a.m. to noon, with volunteers from Key Clubs of different schools performing tasks such as clearing tables as soon as guests were finished, acting as greeters, and assisting with the serving of pancakes, sausages and beverages.

Key Club, a subdivision of Kiwanis, is an international club system for high school students that emphasizes the importance of volunteering and encourages youth to get involved with the community. The club meets every other Thursday in B102 from 4:15 to 4:40 p.m.

“I think that even if [volunteering] can get pretty hard, seeing that people are happy is just worth it,” Key Club officer junior Ainsley Romero said. “They treated us like we were family and I felt a really good sense of community here.”
