The school year started off with new IDs issued to all students to pay for school lunches in the cafeteria.

Student ID cards have two barcodes. The barcode marked cafeteria will be used to identify students and utilize any funds in their accounts.

“The district issued cafeteria specific ID numbers last school year to protect their lunch accounts due to the student ID number being a public number,” cafeteria manager, Ms. Ranft said.

Students may still pay for their lunch without their IDs, but they will have to wait through a longer line. When students without the new ID cards pay for their lunch, the cashier will look up their name and find their account.

“We encourage all students to use their ID cards so that we can efficiently process meal transactions, reduce line waits and ensure more security for their lunch accounts,” cafeteria manager, Ms. Ranft said.

Some students said that even with the fast line and the slow line, the lunches are still taking too long and are too crowded.

“Sometimes I have to wait a long time for lunch and then only have a few minutes to eat,” senior Jorge Vega said.

Other students think the new system is working; they are getting their lunches quicker and have more time to eat.

“The two lines help make paying for lunch more efficient,” junior Nick Sanchez said.
