In October, six students from McNeil were recognized as National Hispanic Scholars, including senior Isabella Gandara.

The Board of Trustees recognized 18 Round Rock ISD students as National Hispanic Scholars – six of them from McNeil – Oct. 16. The scholarship rewards high school seniors for their exceptional academic achievements.

The following students represented McNeil: Walter Bilanski, Christopher Colby, Isabella Gandara, Benjamin Henthorn, Filip Kasprowicz and Nicholas Martinez.

Gandara applied for the achievement when she obtained a high score on the PSAT, allowing her to apply for the National Hispanic Scholar status.

“I worked hard in school and took a lot of AP classes,” Gandara said. “I’m involved in a lot of extracurricular activities, which makes it harder, but worth it in the end. It feels very rewarding to be able to balance those things.”

Since Gandara worked hard to receive this achievement, she will include it on her Texas A&M application, where she hopes to go as an engineering major.

McNeil received the second most National Hispanic Scholars, following only Round Rock with seven students.
