McNeil students advance to State

McNeil students participated in the annual Texas Alliance for Minorities in Texas Alliance for Minorities in Engineering (TAME) Area Competition Jan. 31 at UT Austin in Welch Hall. Almost all McNeil students who competed placed in the top six.

“I’ve been doing TAME since sixth grade,” freshman Riti Srivastava said. “I think it is a fun, cool way to hang out with friends while also competing against them.”

The following students represented McNeil at Area:

Vignesh Krishnamurthy (9), sixth place in Algebra II

Srivastava, fourth place in Algebra II

Nitin Jain (9), second place in Algebra II

Natalie Malluru (10), sixth place in Pre-Calculus

Jaden Fang (9), fourth place in Pre-Calculus

Samagra Jain (10), sixth place in Chemistry

Cathy Nguyen (10), fourth place in Chemistry

Aditya Sankar (10), third place in Chemistry

Arka Majumdar (9) fifth place in Biology

Kunal Jain (9), first place in Biology

Jack Chang (12), third place in Calculus, fourth place in AP Physics and first place in the Team Engineering Design Challenge

Sam Mokhtar (12), first place in Calculus and second place in AP Physics.

“I studied my school notes and previous tests over winter break,” Nguyen said. “TAME is really fun, especially the team challenge. I love how we meet new people even though we take tests.”

Of these students, Kunal Jain and Mokhtar will advance to the state competition which will be held  at Lockheed Martin in Fort Worth on May 2.
