Ina Garten. Julia Child. Bobby Flay. These famous chefs have all written cookbooks used across the country. And now McNeil’s Project Graduation will be joining their ranks.

The cookbook, which began in May and will be available in November, is a fundraiser going towards the Project Graduation celebration for seniors at the end of the school year. It is being organized by Jan Markle and Carolyn Kyzar, and edited by Stephanie Delgado.

It was Jan’s idea,” Kyzar said. “She found the idea online while looking at other fundraisers. Since previous Project Grads had not done a cookbook, we thought it was a great idea – a way to remember your classmates.”

Work on the cookbook began in May. Before school was out, the McNeil IT sent an email to the class of 2017 as well as teachers asking for recipes and accompanying photos, and there was a link to submit recipes on the school website.

After not having a lot of luck getting recipes from students, I contacted the next best thing, the senior’s mother or grandmother,” Markle said. “I asked them to submit their senior’s favorite recipe.”

There will be seven categories: Rise and Shine without the Grumpies (Breakfast), Test Day Brain Food (Anything), Satisfying Munchies (Appetizers or Beverages), Pregame (Soup or Salads), Sideliners (Veggies or Side Dishes), Bulk Up (Main Course) and Stress Eating at its Finest (Desserts).

The book has been completed and sent to Cookbook Publishers for production. The order form is in the store on the Project Graduation website, at http://mcneilprojectgrad.ch2v.com/.

“[Cookbook Publishers] will publish it and we will have it for sale at the Nov. 19 Craft/Holiday Bazaar for S25,” Markle said. “It will make a great Christmas gift for family or friends.”

The organizers hope to make $2,500 with cookbook sales. Along with other fundraisers, including poinsettia sales, a recycling pick-up and Chipotle nights, the proceeds will fund Project Graduation in June 2017.

We hope that all seniors take advantage of the graduation celebration at Main Event, making it a safe night for all,” Kyzar said.
