The McNeil Library took 48 students to the Stony Point PAC on Nov. 8 to take part in an author visit with award-winning graphic novelist, Jarrett Krosoczka. Krosoczka is known for his work as an author and illustrator of children’s books. One of his well-known series is “Lunch Lady,” which is a graphic novel series for young readers. Krosoczka is also notorious for his graphic memoir, “Hey Kiddo,” which tells the story of his own childhood and adolescence, focusing on his relationship with his grandparents as he grows up alongside his mother’s struggles with addiction. His book explores themes of family, resilience and the power of art as a form of self-expression.
“I liked how we got to have the experience to meet the author and listen to his hardships,” junior Shennie Ye said. “I feel like we could feel emotions we haven’t felt before because in person we heard his emotions and like he was about to cry and it was like people could resonate with his books and I thought it was really cool how there are different aspects of literature for authors.”
