On Thursday, Sept. 5 the Improv Comedy Club had their first meeting in the black box from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. The Improv Comedy Club has been meeting unofficially since 2019 but officially became a club in 2021.
The club holds two meetings a month with each meeting lasting an hour. They played games in a circle during the meeting and performed sketches in small groups.
“You could do anything in improv club,” senior and club president Pluto Anderson said. “It creates a community [where] you don’t get judged because you can do anything.”
Throughout the year the club performs at a variety of events.
“The past couple years we’ve done Rattan Fest held at Rattan Park and Excused Absence Fest which I held at the Cold Town theater downtown,” said Anderson. “When we perform we have a lineup of groups that do different games and sometimes just montages of improv comedy and stuff.”
The Improv Comedy Club strives to create a community and encourages members to stay open minded within the program.
“I like that it’s so supportive you could just do anything.” Anderson said “There’s not anybody saying ‘don’t do that,’’ it’s all ‘yes and!’”
