Governor Greg Abbott and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board introduced the first ever Free College Application week that will take place from Oct. 13 to 19. This was announced on Aug. 29 in a press release in Austin, Texas. During this week all students who apply to any undergraduate schools in Texas through the application ApplyTexas will have their application fees waived. A college application usually can cost anywhere from $40 to $90 per application.
“I feel this free application week can help remove a barrier for students. Allowing students to apply without the extra burden of paying the application fee, allows students to focus on the application without an extra stressor of cost,” Head counselor Brandon Tate said. “This benefits students by allowing them to apply for as many universities as they would like. My recommendation would be for students to use this week to apply for the universities (max 5) with the highest application fees.”
