Lockers at McNeil Should be Removed: An Editorial

The lockers at McNeil have been an ongoing disruption to the space in the hallways. Over the past few years, students have been neglecting to use them, and now it’s like they don’t even exist anymore. There are many reasons why the removal of these lockers will be of great benefit to the school.

One reason why lockers should be removed is that students have been using them as secret compartments to store illegal substances like drugs and alcohol. This is definitely not the safest option, and by getting rid of lockers, we can prevent the risk of the school getting exposed to those substances.

Another reason why lockers should be removed is because people have been getting injured by them. Whenever fights occur in the hallways, students often shove other students onto those lockers, causing them to get hurt and injure themselves. We wouldn’t want this to continue because we need to protect the safety and well-being of students.

Since there are financial issues that the admin will have to face in order to remove these lockers, one way we can facilitate this is by hosting a fundraiser (such as a bake sale, movie night, etc.). With the money we raise for the event, students can help the admin ensure that they have enough money to remove the lockers from the hallways.

A solution to the removal of lockers would be to use the spaces they have been occupying as shelves where we could display trophies, awards, artwork or just to show off the amazing talents the school has. There wouldn’t be any way for students to store substances inside those shelves and students wouldn’t use them as weapons during fights since the shelves are made of glass and are not as stable. They are definitely worth the space the lockers have been occupying.

In conclusion, due to the disruption that lockers have created over the past few years in the hallways, they should be removed with proper financial coordination. Once removed, replacing them with trophy shelves will be a great, beneficial way to utilize the space they have occupied.
