The Adventures of Joshua and Rachel

Joshua was lying in his hammock, staring in awe at the rapidly fading pink sky. Rachel, Joshua’s best friend since elementary school, was laying next to him in another hammock, contemplating her existence as well as the grand universe. “Quite a beautiful sight, isn’t it?” exclaims Joshua. “I find myself in awe of the richness of the colors and the knowledge that the little fireflies will soon come out,” states Rachel. “Do you remember when we first met?” asks Rachel. “I remember it as vividly as if it occurred yesterday. I walked into the 3rd grade classroom there was only one seat left. I sat down, and there you were, beaming up at me!” “I was so happy to see a new face!” “I completely understand. A beautiful face, such as mine, is certainly something to admire,” states Joshua. “Oh stop haha!” “ It is getting dark. I should head home.” “Alright!” Joshua exclaims. “See you at school tomorrow.” “See you.”

Joshua drove to school the next day, and met up with his friend in the morning. “Hey dude! How have you been?” Rick asks. “I have been perfectly well these last few days.” Joshua responds. “Where were you last night? I tried to call you, but you didn’t pick up the phone.” “Sorry man, I was hanging out with Rachel,” Joshua explains. “You always seem to hang out with Rachel. When are you going to ask her out?” “Bro, we are just friends! Nothing more, nothing less,” Joshua responds. “If you say so man…It just seems like you have a connection.” “We have a connection as friends, and that is all. Do you understand?” Joshua asks. “Hey Joshy boy, no need to get all defensive about the subject. You must really like her if you are getting all worked up like this.” “NO I DO NOT!!!! WE ARE JUST FRIENDS!!!!!!!!!” Joshua shouts out. “Okay, okay. Calm down Josh. I didn’t mean to make you angry or anything,” Rick responds. “It’s fine man. People just keep telling me that, and it is getting on my nerves. Class is about to start. I shall talk to you later man!” “Alright.”

Joshua went to Calculus and sat next to Rachel. “You look fabulous today, my lady. Did you do something to your hair?” asks Josh. “Shut up Joshy haha! You must really like me or something.” “Not in the least.” “That’s no way to talk to your queen!” Rachel playfully states. “Ha. Ha.” “Do you hear the teacher? He has such a monotone voice. He keeps droaning on and on about limits and derivatives. When the hell are we going to use this stuff anyway?” Rachel exclaims. “I will use it to create the next space plane,” Josh states. “Always the nerd.” “At least class is almost over. There’s the bell!” Rachel’s face radiated with joy, her rosy cheeks flushing with happiness. “We should get together tonight. Do you want to go to the movies?” Josh inquired. “Sure. It’s a date!” “Not quite haha.” “See you then!”

Joshua and Rachel met up at the theater around 9 to see the Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1. They sat towards the back of the theater, slumped in their seats. “This is so boring!” Rachel exclaimed. “I agree,” Joshua proclaimed. The man snoring in the back of the theater emphasized their point. “How about we leave early and go to the park? This is worse than watching paint dry.” Joshua asks. “Alright. We can go look at the night sky together.” “Sounds good.” They left in Joshua’s car and arrived at the park 15 minutes later. They both had a passion for Astronomy, and so they went out to the park at night quite often. The stars were glimmering as brightly as giant balls of hydrogen and helium can. “This is so beautiful!” Joshua proclaimed. “Quite right!” “This is kind of romantic, laying in the soft green grass like this,” Rachel teased. “It does lift up the heart.” In that moment, Joshua realized what he had been denying all along. He loved Rachel. He went in for the kiss, and Rachel accepted. “I never knew you were a great kisser,” Rachel stated. “I never knew I was either!” They accepted what they had been denying for so long, their love and fiery passion for each other. Fire does eventually burn out, however, and their relationship only lasted for a year. They eventually broke each other’s hearts and were never spoke to each other again.
