On Oct. 26, Vogue World explored different realms of film and fashion throughout the decades between seven different acts. From the 1920s inspired ‘Hollywood Glamour’ to their exploration of ‘New World’ fashion in the seventh act, Vogue has displayed the progressions of fashion throughout the decades in just this one night.
In the first act—‘Hollywood Glamour’— Vogue explored looks from what many refer to as the “Golden Age of Hollywood”, with homages to iconic films such as The Great Gatsby, Moulin Rouge, and Gilda. In fact, actress Nicole Kidman opened the act with a musical note dressed as Rita Hayworth from Gilda, singing ‘Put The Blame on Mame’. With the use of specific silhouettes and fabrics, costume designer Catherine Martin, among other creators, were able to mimic the fashion of the early to mid 1900s.
Like the name suggests, the second act ‘The Renegade’ included looks that go against the current “principles” of fashion with a mix of gothic looks from movies like The Matrix and Shaft and more quirky looks from movies like Desperately Seeking Susan and The Royal Tenenbaums. Supermodel Anok Yai walked the runway in a McQueen look, referencing Tim Burton’s Edward Scissorhands, followed by models in looks from Schiaparelli, Hermès, and Balenciaga. Designer Colleen Atwood collaborated with creative directors Seán McGirr and Alexander McQueen to put together this quirky performance.
Act Three, ‘Historical Heroines’, revolved around historical fashion, with special references to the popular period dramas Marie Antoinette by Sofia Coppola and Barry Londyn by Stanley Kubrick. Abby Champion walked for the fourth act, ‘Summer of Love’, dressed like Sharon Tate in Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood. This act served to represent fashion trends from the 60’s-70’s, with references to movies like Annie Hall and West Side Story.
With tributes to films like Malcolm X by Spike Lee and Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther, act six: ‘Afrofuturism’, featured looks from designers like Balmain and Louis Vuitton. With careful attention to color, fabrics, and silhouettes, these designers worked together to bring an energy of strength, power, and presence to the runway. Lastly, act seven delved into newer trends of fashion by collaborating with designers like Marc Jacobs, Maison Margiela, and Calvin Klein.
The next Vogue event, “Red, White, and Vogue”, is scheduled for March 12, 2026 in Palm Beach, Florida. This event is an exclusive lunch held at the Mar-a-Lago Club to support Grey Team’s operation to provide care to veterans.
