Austin Community College Now Accessible to More Students

Austin+Community+College+Now+Accessible+to+More+Students

Opened in 1973 with one campus, Austin Community College today has eight campuses, 12 centers and is currently expanding several sites.

The Elgin Center, located at 902 W. 2nd Street, is open for business. However, construction is going on at Highway 290 and County Line Road for a full-sized campus.

The difference between the centers and the campuses are that the centers help students register and offer some classes, but they do not have the full amenities of regular campuses. The new Elgin Campus will offer counselors, a financial aid office, a learning lab, tutoring, a library, labs, computers, a testing center, commons area, bookstore, essentially everything other campuses have.

“The Elgin Campus has a unique design that fits into the surrounding environment and community,” Project Manager Pamela Collier said.

The new Elgin Campus is scheduled to open for regular classes in fall of 2013.

The Highland Business Center, home to the ACC district offices and a few select programs, is in the process of taking on new space as well. This project is a little further in the future than the Elgin expansion, but ACC already owns the site. They will start by renovating an old J.C. Penney building and then continue from there. The location is scheduled to open fall of 2014.
Plans for the expansion are detailed at http://www.austincc.edu/highland/index.php.

These new additions will make other campuses less crowded and provide students with more opportunities for classes. For McNeil students who participate in Early College Start, or plan to attend ACC after graduation, these locations may add convenience for attending future courses.

For any questions regarding ACC, their main phone line, 512-223-4222, can provide general information or connect callers with specific campuses.

This was very informative and provided me an easy way to understand how ACC was advancing. I also like how you mentioned the websites so we can find more information if the need arises.
