Acosta Named New Principal

The Round Rock ISD Board of Trustees named the new principal, Courtney Acosta, former interim principal at a special called meeting Dec. 16. Acosta has been serving as the interim principal since August, when John Yonker left for a district level position as the executive director for educational support.

“I am honored to continue serving the students, families and staff of McNeil High School,” Acosta said. “This is a special school with great traditions of success in academics, fine arts and athletics. Our goal as a team of effective educators is to continue that tradition and to offer opportunities for every student who walks into our campus.”

Teachers will continue to support Acosta in her transition to principal.

“[Acosta] has done a good job as the interim principal, and I think she’ll continue to do a good job,” math teacher Emily Jensen said.

The superintendent is happy and honored to have Acosta, as well, especially since McNeil has recently earned all six distinction designations and a spot in the top five percent of Texas schools.

“McNeil High School is entering critical years as the campus builds on its successes this summer when it earned all six distinction designations from TEA,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Steve Flores said. “Courtney Acosta is part of a team that has increased student achievement. She possesses a clear vision for McNeil, and brings a valuable reputation for collaboration that will engage stakeholders at all levels of the community.”
