Annual underwear drive underway to fill RRISD Clothes Closet

The final day to turn in new undies for the RRISD Clothes Closet competition against Westwood is Thursday, Oct. 12.

“While this is a very worthy and noble cause, it’s personal to me,” Principal Courtney Acosta said. “My husband [Mario Acosta] is the principal at Westwood.”

Last year, the two campuses collected 20,000 pairs of new socks for the Clothes Closet so the need is to contribute new undies sizes 4T to adult.

“While my husband thinks Westwood kids are wonderful, and I’m sure that’s true, I know that our Mavericks are better,” Courtney Acosta said.

Students can drop off packages of underwear to their second period teacher or the club/organization of their choice.

The second period, club/organization, and athletic group that collects the most will win a pizza party. The teacher that brings the overall most pairs of new undies will win a day off.
