Denial

Poem 1: Problem

Most humans are very fragile

They resist change so that they can keep their bodies intact

Their whole world is built on rejection

Instead of becoming better and stronger,

They deny

They spread their technique wherever they go

Until a simple breeze can break the world

But not if they deny

They are either unaware of their affliction,

Or they deny their denial

Causing its influence to grow

An invisible evil that feeds off itself

Denial is the exoskeleton of a weak soul

It’s the blinding light of an artificial sun

It’s the warmth of an ashen heart

Denial is a disease that can be cured

But fighting it would hurt them too much

Anything that’s not easy is impossible in their eyes

They inhale temporary satisfaction and exhale misery

Suffocating the world around them

But they’re okay with that

As long as they can continue to deny their own misery

Poem 2: Solution

The most effective way to get rid of denial

Is also the most extreme

One must destroy the entire world of the person in denial

And when they see that the hopeless hope can no longer help them

They go through a kind of withdrawal

Denial is a huge part of many people’s identities

They have grown addicted to it

Once it leaves, they cannot cope

As a result, there is a great chance of relapse

A drug such as denial is the hardest to cure,

For it is intangible

The depression begins to set in

They must finally face life

This is often the greatest challenge of any person’s life

How does one spot denial?

Must we destroy most people’s lives to rid the world of denial?

Is this really a necessary step?

Will the whole world become depressed?

Is there any way to prevent denial from ever happening?

When such a great evil is present, is it worth the consequences to vanquish it?

It’s hard to know

Ideally, revelations are not induced

Yet denial is destroying the world

In such a toxic world with such a drastic cure, why inhabit it?

The few not in denial can live on

Watching their neighbors suffocate in their own disease

At the constant risk of infection

Or, they can find a better world

What is the best decision?
