The White Snow

White snow cascades around me; the simple white flurries.

Intricate in design yet feeble.

The warmth that courses through me isn’t due in part to the crackling sounds that reverberate externally; but inside my heart.

The smile that melted the cold and alleviated my burdens.

The frostbite imbedded in my being coursing deeper and deeper.

Until the numb is all I hold dear.

A better life entices the best of us.

Their mundane timeline briefly lit by warm golds and reds.

But the overwhelming amount of white taints their smile.

As the white snow gathers on my cheeks; mixing with the luminescent streaks adorning my face.

I remember the tiny fragments of gold; and how happy they were.

The gold I wish they always had; so I stand there.

In the white snow; covered head to toe.

In the mundane abyss of white.

To which I clutch the despondent feeling closer to my heart.

And ruefully smile my smile of white.
