Painting 4 students participated in the annual Round Rock Chalk Walk for the seventh year in a row. The team of five students worked for six hours turning a 10’X10’ space of raw street into chalk art inspired by junior Ann Marie Young’s sketches.
“Having my sketches picked was a big reward,’’ junior Ann Marie Young said. “It was the biggest canvas I’ve ever had.”
The festival, held to benefit the arts, not only had the Chalk Walk, but there were also food trucks and music.
“It was really hot,” junior Emilly Loza said. “But it was fun because we were all together doing something we love.”
In the end, the Maverick painters came away from Chalk Walk with the Best High School Art award.
“It felt amazing to get the recognition as an artist,” junior Lucca Spagnola said. “A lot of art is people implying ‘Oh, you’re an artist, you have no talent’, so having the acknowledgement was exhilarating.”
