2024 Leap Year

The year 2024 is a Leap Year, meaning there will be an additional day in the February Calendar. In a standard year, there are 28 days in February. This year there will be another day added on Thursday the 29, 2024. The extra day is added typically every four years to prevent changes to the seasonal year. The Gregorian calendar year has 365 days, however, the Earth’s orbit around the Sun is roughly 365.25 days. If an extra day is not added, the season’s timeline would start to shift. Leap Years not only impact the date and time, but have influenced culture as well. People who are born on Feb. 29 of a Leap Year are known as “Leaplings.” In some societies, there is a tradition that states women are allowed to propose to men on the Leap Year day. While the Leap Year is for Gregorian calendar years, other cultures that follow the Lunar Calendar have to add a whole leap month every three years.
