The Orchestra club had a special Halloween performance on Thursday, Oct. 23, featuring the movie Nosferato. The orchestra played along as the movie rolled on projectors around the cafeteria.
An innovative take on typical orchestra concerts, viewers enjoyed having the movie play alongside a live show.
“It really captured a lot of the emotions and the dramatics of the movie,” Sophomore Gwenith Appleton said. “I feel like it was really good and it (the movie and music) went really well.”
Following the Halloween theme, the conductor was dressed up as Count Dracula and the movie being featured was a 1920’s black and white movie that presented the story of an estate agent in the 1830’s who travels to Transylvania to meet Count Dracula, who’s planning to buy a house in his town.
As the agent leaves to go on the trip, his newlywed wife falls deathly ill, seeing horrific visions of incoming dread. Meanwhile, the agent arrives at Dracula’s house to discuss business but has to quickly escape the bloodthirsty vampire after he pricks his finger.
Returning home, he finds his wife under the spell of the vampire. The wife is able to escape death and the vampire is defeated.
“I really liked how the movie became much more immersive because having the orchestra play at the same time made it feel like it was actually happening,” Junior Ryan Guajardo said. “I especially liked the part where the rats came out and the violins went (makes screeching with voice) because I personally experienced rat infestations and they make me feel very dorcelessness.”
The concert’s purpose was to raise money for the booster club.
“This was supposed to be our Halloween fundraiser for our booster club,” Gavin Wu said. “So, we were preparing to play a movie for them and have people buy tickets.”
The money will be used for funding future events and expenses for the orchestra.
