With the 25-26 school year coming to a close, the seniors have to get ready for the final week of school. This includes returning all school owned items, going on senior walks, having graduation practice, to finally being able to graduate. Here is the schedule for seniors for the week of May 18th.
On Mon. May 18, students will go to their 1st and 2nd periods as usual, instead of going to their 3rd periods, students will be attending a mandatory senior meeting and obligation return from 1:14 to 2:44. These obligation returns include chromebooks, Athletics/Fine Arts Equipment, library books, textbooks, and any other items owned by McNeil. Students will need to return all these items in order to be eligible to graduate.
“It will be sentimental for me to part with the chromebook I’ve used for nearly seven years now across my journey through middle and high school, though I’ll absolutely be ready to submit my last assignments and close my notebooks for the last time,” senior Eleanor Van Dyke said. “While that senior stress is hitting me as I toil in the throes of completing my final essays, presentations, and exams, I am very eagerly awaiting graduation.”
May 19 and 20 are senior walks, May 19 being for elementary schools and May 20 being for middle schools. Seniors will need to check their emails for permission slips to fill out before being able to go on these walks. Seniors will then be able to leave from school at 1:30 pm and head over to the given school at the time given on the flyer found in the Sunday Apr. 19, MavMail for their desired school. It is important to note that no buses will be provided and seniors will need to get their own way of transportation. Seniors being able to walk their elementary school and middle schools is a good way for students to remember where they came from and where they are now. This is also an emotional time for students to reunite with old teachers that helped shape them into who they are now.
“I feel excited to walk through my old school because it’ll remind me of what brought me to how I am now and where I am, graduating.” Senior Isabella Quintanilla said
Graduation practice will be happening on May 21, this practice will start at two, seniors will only need to be at school for this practice and should make sure they get there early enough to get set up and not be late as being late can push back the practice and make students leave later than they normally would. This practice is mandatory as it helps make the real graduation easy and smooth. For the practice students will need to be in their cap and gown, this is also the time for AP’s to check if students’ graduation caps are appropriate, students are also not allowed to have any food and drinks as they can get the caps and gowns messy.
“I think practice will help because It’s nice to know who to sit next to, and some people are disorganized. So yes, I think graduation practice will be good.” Senior Aishanee Bose said
Fri. May 22, seniors are finally able to graduate. In order to do so however, they will need to be at McNeil no later than 10:30 A.M. in order to ride the bus to the HEB center. If students do not get there by 10:30, then they will miss the bus and will have to get driven to the center. Just like the practice, students are not allowed to have food or drinks with them, however, at the center water will be provided. Students should also minimize what they bring as nothing is able to be left on the buses and there is no place to store these items.
“I’m excited to graduate, as I’m excited for summer break and college! I’m looking forward to the college life experience,” senior Megna Sreejith said.
