The Lady Mavs cheer one another one, preparing to fight the Westwood Warriors.

Last Tuesday, the varsity girls traveled to College Station, where they played against Bryan. The girls defeated Bryan in all three sets, 25-10, 25-15 and 25-20.

Against the Westwood Warriors on Friday night, the Lady Mavericks started strong. During the first set, Hannah Weaver repeatedly went to the ground in order to hit the ball over the net successfully. Joining Weaver was Megan Silguero. Besides quick movements to the ground, the Lady Mavs were prepared to hit the ball over the net despite the Warriors’ quick rebound.

As the Mavs cheered for a point, a Westwood player was sprawled on the floor in disappointment from missing the ball. The first set was not all high points though. At one point, the ball was way up in the rafters, and the girls scrambled to get it, but ultimately fail. Moving on from their fumble, the Lady Mavs tie up the match, 18-18, and pull ahead to win.

The second set of the game did not prove as promising, despite the Lady Mavs getting the first point. While the Lady Mavs were a bit off their game, the Lady Warriors seemed unprepared for the fast balls coming in and hitting the floor. The Lady Mavs didn’t give up easily, though, as Zoey Frazier and Mallory Davidson worked together for a rebound over the net to tie the game 19-19. The Lady Mavs lost the second set, 19-25, after having problems getting the ball up in the air.

As the third set progressed, it turned out be as disappointing as the second. Both the players and the crowd still held out hope for a win, the crowd cheering “fight for it Mavericks.” The score ended up being 17-25.

The Lady Mavs are set to play next against the Lady Knights on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Cedar Ridge.
