Where do you see yourself working right now, in a few months, or a few years? For some, that may be lifeguarding, working at a place like McDonald’s or a  retail shop. For senior Lukas Frederick, that place was Outback Steakhouse for as far as he could see, until the day he was offered his dream job.The CEO of Pinballz Arcade – an old football coach of Lukas’ – ate at Outback one day, recognized Lukas and offered him a job.

Being quite the video game fanatic, he found a job he loves going to and will continue to work there even when he returns from college during the summers.

“I had been a customer for a few months,” Lukas said. “I fell in love with Pinballz and (now) look forward to going to work. I get paid to test out and play video games.”

Located at 8940 Research Blvd. #100 Austin, Pinballz is the second largest arcade in the United States, and the largest in Texas.

Having worked there for seven months now, Lukas noticed the friendly nature of the other employees and experienced the joys of working somewhere he loves.

“In a sense, we (employees) are cool nerds,” Lukas said. “I am in a pinball league. We compete for eight weeks and then there are playoffs.”

With a $20 entry fee, these leagues begin in late February and continue through early March. Anyone can join.

Outside the leagues, Pinballz offers more than 200 anytime games with different styles including pinball, arcade, redemption and others.

For Lukas, having this job is extraordinary. As most of the employees are 25 and older, he is one of the youngest. Pinballz Arcade emits the reputation of being a perfect Austin atmosphere. With its unique products and diverse employees, it is the perfect place for all ages to have fun.

“In the restaurant industry, there is a customer right of way,” Lukas said. “At Pinballz, customers move out of your (the employees) way. We get a lot of applications here, so having this job makes me feel almost glorified.”
